Offthetopofmyhead Designs Logo for Green Bird Communications

Offthetopofmyhead has designed a logo for digital marketing consultancy Green Bird Communications.

The consultancy was founded by marketing, communications and PR consultant Clare Dorey, and journalist and writer Lucy Mason. Green Bird claims to create marketing tools that help businesses achieve a strong digital presence and to “fly online”.

Headquartered in Surrey, the company’s name is a homage to the wild, ring-necked parakeets that are common in the area. How these birds came to be in Surrey is the stuff of legend. Some say they escaped from Shepperton Studios during the making of John Huston’s 1951 film The African Queen starring Humphrey Bogart and Katherine Hepburn; others blame Jimi Hendrix because he’s supposed to have released a pair in Carnaby Street in the 1960s. But the reality is probably less glamorous as records show parakeets have been breeding in the wild since 1855.

John Spencer, founder and creative director of Offthetopofmyhead says, “It’s a bird. It’s a B. It’s a typographic pun. We just looked at the name and did what it suggested. Green Bird’s logo is idiosyncratic, whimsical even, but it’s clear and confident too so it very much reflects the consultancy’s character and personality, and the way they do business”.

The logo will be seen on an array of online and offline collateral from the website and social media platforms to business stationery, exhibition displays and promotional giveaways.
