Yahoo Unveils its New Logo Design

Yahoo has officially unveiled its new logo after showing 30 variations of the design over the course of the past month.

“We wanted a logo that stayed true to our roots (whimsical, purple, with an exclamation point) yet embraced the evolution of our products,” Kathy Savitt, Yahoo’s chief marketing officer, said in a blog post that was published late Wednesday evening.

Company CEO Marissa Mayer added, “Our purple is Pantone Violet C – a pantone that needs no number and no introduction. For the texture, we came up with the nice idea of creating a chiseled triangular depth to the logo – this causes the letter Y to appear in the shading at the ends of each of the letters.”

The new logo, which showed up on Yahoo’s homepage early Thursday morning, includes elements of the old logo, including colour and the now famous exclamation mark. It represents Yahoo’s first major overhaul of its logo in 18 years.
