NLPatent Rebrands, Gets New Name and Logo

NLPatent, an American firm known for creating one of the first AI-driven patent research engines, has changed its name to "Clerq".
Since its inception in 2021, NLPatent's proprietary language models – reportedly developed prior to the launch of ChatGPT and other general AI tools – have assisted patent experts in searching, monitoring, and analysing millions of patent and non-patent literature documents.
Indeed, the company's new name is inspired by the role of a law clerk, who performs tasks under the supervision of an attorney.
"That relationship is the oldest and most trusted division of labour in law, and it’s the exact framework for the 'Clerq' we’ve built," says Stephanie Curcio, CEO and co-founder of Clerq.
Adding: "Our journey has mirrored the evolution of the technology itself. We became early adopters of language models before anyone else in this space was talking about them, and now we're early movers in the agentic era with Clerq – that five-year foundation in patent research gives our agents the context they need to deliver work product that stands up to expert review. We've stayed a step ahead at every turn, and Clerq is the clearest expression of that yet."
Clerq's agentic workflows are claimed to accomplish comprehensive patent research tasks that usually take days or weeks in about ten minutes.
The software is reportedly favoured by corporate IP teams and law firms managing large volumes of patents across various technology sectors.
