Tech Firm Lit Thinking Unveils New Name and Logo
Lit Thinking, a company specialising in far-Ultraviolet-C (far-UVC) technology, has officially rebranded as “VISIUM”.
The change coincides with the opening of its new 5,000 sq. ft. research lab – named “VISIUM UltraLabs” – situated at Cornell Tech Park.
Founded in 2022, the American firm creates a light-based product called Visium – which inspired the new name – that uses far-UVC technology to enhance the health and safety of indoor environments.
While Ultraviolet-C (UV-C) – a form of ultraviolet light with wavelengths between 200 and 280 nanometres (nm) – is commonly used to kill pathogens for disinfection purposes in food production, water purification, and healthcare settings, far-UVC is a form of ultraviolet light that not only kill viruses and bacteria in the air but does so without causing harm to the human body.
It is said to be safe for human skin and eyes, making it suitable for places like hospitals, schools, and offices.
For instance, Lit Thinking’s Visium device (pictured below), which debuted last May, is now used at major locations such as Mt. Sinai Hospital in New York, the Miami Dolphins’ stadium, and Roger Williams University in Rhode Island.
The company also states that its new research facility will seek to overcome the challenges posed by current far-UVC technology, which relies on costly Krypton Chloride lamps, in order to develop a more efficient far-UVC LED at 230nm.
“This new technology, based on Ultra-wide Bandgap semiconductors with Aluminum Nitride substrates, will be mass-produced affordably, making Far-UVC disinfection accessible to a much wider range of applications,” says the firm.
“Our research is akin to the invention of the bright blue LED in the 1990s, which revolutionised the lighting industry. We believe our work will have a similar disruptive impact on the world of public health,” adds John Rajchert, CEO of VISIUM.
