Archival’s adidas RGIII Trophy Edition Design Wins 2014 RDA
adidas introduced a special-edition cleat to the market called the Trophy Edition crazyquick back in 2012.
The bronze colourway was created specifically for American footballer Robert Griffin III’s first ever Monday Night Football game and integrated SPOTLIGHT technology. Whenever a photo with flash is taken of the shoe, the message “Unbelievably Believable”—written in Griffin’s handwriting—is revealed on the shoe (a nod to RGIII’s Heisman speech sound bite).
Nebraska-based branding agency Archrival was charged with designing the limited edition cleat packaging and capturing the presentation and reaction of Robert checking out the cleat for the first time.
The branding project has recently been chosen among the 350 best designs in the 2014 Print Regional Design Annual, and as one of the top 10 designs in the Midwest region.
Print magazine’s RDA, now in its 35th year, is said to be one of the most influential U.S.–based graphic design competition of its kind.
