JDO Develops ‘Vamp Aid’ Brand Concept for Blood Donation

With Halloween just around the corner, the design team at JDO has created a striking concept project dubbed "Vamp Aid".
The brand design agency has crafted a campaign that aims to catch people's attention and encourage them to seriously consider blood donation.
While vampires are merely a myth, blood shortage is a pressing issue; in the UK, the NHS requires about 400 new donors every day to meet the demands of hospitals, which proves that the 'thirst' for blood is very real.
Vamp Aid therefore combines the dark humour of Halloween with a powerful social message, transforming traditional vampire lore into something quite... fang-tastic!
From vampire-defaced posters to blood-dispensing vending machines, every interaction is designed to quicken the pulse.
The identity kit engages with cultural trends through Blood Bank T-shirts that play on vintage tour merchandise, and guerrilla installations like fence spikes painted blood red.
At its centre is a cleverly haunting monogram: a fang concealed in the V, and a single blood droplet shining in the A; when animated, the letters overlap and merge, creating a visual language that bleeds with dark emotion (you can watch the whole animated logo here).
"It’s stylishly sinister, eerily elegant, and impossible to scroll past," reckon the designers at JDO.
"The connection between vampires and blood donation is so instinctive, it felt like it had been waiting in the shadows all along," says Frank James, design director at JDO.
Adding: "What really brought it to life was the copy. Those tongue-in-fang lines that balance humour and horror in equal measure. It helps make people stop and think, which is exactly what a great communication campaign should do."
"Every year, JDO lets its dark side out to play with a Halloween concept that celebrates the team’s imagination and craft. Vamp Aid pairs the ridiculous with the real. The absurdity of vampires with the seriousness of blood donation. The result is playful, purposeful, and yes, a little petrifying," further comments Rachael Skingle, strategist at JDO.
