Logo for 2016 NATO Warsaw Summit Unveiled

Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, together with Polish Foreign Minister Witold Waszczykowski have this week unveiled the official logo for the NATO summit in Warsaw which will take place on 8-9 July next year.

The design, unveiled during the two-day NATO Foreign Ministers meeting, includes a modern depiction of the famous Mermaid of Warsaw, the emblem of the Polish capital, which dates back over 600 years.

“Legend tells us that after being rescued by local fishermen, the mermaid, armed with a sword and a shield, stood ready to protect the city and its people. Much in the way that NATO stands ready to protect the people of Poland today, as well as the people of the Allied countries,” the Secretary General said.

Stoltenberg added that the logo, which was made in the distinctive style of the influential Polish Poster School, also shows the modern face of Poland, “forward looking, energetic and warm.”
